Music video for “Mask”

Ruslan Pelykh

On this record we teamed up with several artists in film, video and music from around the world that shared similar visions of music and art. While researching camera equipment we stumbled upon a director from the Ukraine named Ruslan Pelykh.

Ruslan had some of his work go viral due to the incredible results he was able to achieve with an old, cheap, point-and-shoot camera. His background was in massive commercial productions and he eventually became tired of the arduous set up process and went rogue. He proved that you just need a single camera and creativity to achieve mind bending results. His videos are literally mind blowing and all done handheld with a $600 camera and natural lighting.

We hit him up to see about doing a music video for our second single “Mask” and after listening to the track he was on board! We explained what the track was written about and let him create a treatment for the video. The photo above shows his creative idea board which is an absolute slam dunk. The video will be filmed in the gritty areas of New York in March 2017.

The song is about living your life behind a mask so the real person behind it is never seen. This is an illusion that plagues the world due to stereotypes and stigmas about letting your peers, colleagues and friends see the real you. In the end, what is worse? Being the illusion or being the hollow shell behind the mask?
